Weather Radio Features that I look at.
Decide base model or hand held
Type of antenna for area used
Standby alert
uses S.M.A.R.T. system
Option to select which county warnings
Visual warning option
Battery backup
Radio Reception
I have poor radio reception at home. Every weather radio I have tried do not pick up well. Some do not pick up at all.
In the end, I am going to get both a handheld and a base weather radio. The base will have the optional visual alert and the option to select which county warnings to receive. And it will have an excellent antenna and battery backup. The handheld will be durable and able to take some abuse. Simple options and the ability to receive in the house.

School starts this week for Christina. I think she is looking forward to it.Posted by Administrator
Of course, we'll have Monday playtime a couple weeks after that for Labor Day.

Only once in awhile do I turn the weather radio on standby. After the sirens went off Friday morning it got me thinking. I should have the weather radio on standby all day every day.Posted by Administrator
I have several radios with weather radio features. None pick up well at home. The AM/FM radio with weather radio has a telescopic antenna that pulls in great if I hold the end of the CB antenna to it.
The scanner has weather radio features that are great and the scanner antenna on the roof picks up great. The down side of using the scanner with roof antenna is picking up too many stations. The other morning when I turned it on after the sirens went off it would pick up four of the seven channels. The rubber ducky antenna does not pick up the weather channels in the house. Ugh.
I will follow up with more weather radio thoughts later.

The sirens went off this morning at 04:09. Radar indicated strong winds were in the area. I guess 45mph winds reaching 60mph were coming through.Posted by Administrator
The alarm was set for 04:30. So as frustrating as it was to be woken early, it was incentive to get up and be productive.

The hot weather is taking a toll on us. With Christina wearing her brace, she gets warm quickly. I make sure she stays hydrated.Posted by Administrator
Need more pool time.
